IS THE TEACHING OF GENERATIONAL CURSES BIBLICAL?
This week's Bible question for Michael Pearl:
Is the teaching of Generational Curses scripturally sound?

Michael Pearl has a more in-depth Bible study on this subject which he has made available on CD entitled GENERATIONAL SINS
Michael Pearl addresses the faddish teaching on generational sins, sins of the fathers visited on the children, family curses.

LEAPING TO THE WRONG CONCLUSION
“I just don’t understand it,” cries the new cook, “this recipe is just AWFUL! HOW could they publish such a HORRIBLE recipe?”“Did you cook it for the recommended time?”
“Well . . . no, since I didn’t have any eggs . . . “
“No eggs?”
“Yes, and I don’t like nuts, so I decided to leave those out . . . Of course, I had to boil it instead of baking because the oven doesn’t work right . . .”
“Of course. . .”
By this time, you might wonder how this creative chef ever figured there would be anything good to come of the effort.
Every day individuals look at a bottle of vitamins and decide that there’s no harm in taking just a few more capsules. If someone ignores the recommended dosage of three per day and takes 30, who is to blame when that person dies? Should the family and friends hold the supplement company responsible? Why not tell everyone how irresponsible it was of the company to sell such a ‘dangerous’ product?
The company didn’t cause the death any more than the recipe book cause the cooking catastrophe. If someone doesn’t follow the instructions, they assume the associated risk and are responsible for the outcome.
No Greater Joy Ministries is now in the middle of just such a storm.
A few years ago, a mother smothered her child to death. Investigators found a copy of To Train Up A Child in the home. In an effort to make some sense of a senseless crime, many were quick to try and tie these two things together. The truth is that To Train Up A Child has never promoted, suggested or hinted that a child should be smothered. It was ridiculous to link such a crime to the teachings of No Greater Joy Ministries.
Sadly, this year a 7 year old died. Her parents have been charged with murder and torture. In the home, there was a copy of To Train Up A Child. In the rush to decry this death, many have been quick to state that murder and torture are promoted and recommended within the text of this book, which is an absurd untruth.
Again, the critics have defied rules of logic and leapt to the wrong conclusion. Someone baked a cake without all of the ingredients. Someone is ignoring the instructions. . . . and THAT is a recipe for disaster.

THE VISION is a book about a group of people that come together in hopes of publishing the gospel message in every language. Asher is driven to see the message published – a message his mentor died trying to share. Hope also has a dream to see these things through and works with her daughter Cheyenne to finance the work by developing a herbal berry brew. Local White Supremacists attempt to seize the brew for their own purposes. Muslim Terrorists work to prevent translation of the work into Arabic. All of this takes place in the face of government upheaval and a threatening world-wide natural disaster.
While outside forces press inward, this small group finds themselves stretched to the limit by conflicting personalities and struggles from within.
Each character examines the price they may pay to see THE VISION become a reality.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Debi Pearl is an accomplished writer and no stranger to controversy. With husband, Michael Pearl she co-authored TO TRAIN UP A CHILD. More recently, she caused an outcry among feminists of all stripes with CREATED TO BE HIS HELP MEET a work which presents a Biblically based view of women in God’s created order. It is with this background that she has taken on the task of publishing her latest book, a work of dramatic fiction, THE VISION. She draws heavily upon the things most familiar to her – herbs, rural living and missions – to provide her readers with an exciting tale of intrigue and romance. Those familiar with the Pearls and their ministry, No Greater Joy will note the obvious parallels as the characters try to publish and distribute a chronological Bible comic book (similar to Michael Pearl’s GOOD AND EVIL, now in color and slated for world-wide distribution in 100 languages). In the process, they face peril on many levels. Throughout THE VISION readers are given references for more reading on various topics that give the plot a very realistic feel.
FROM THE COVER
“THE VISION is a touching love story, a dramatic race against evil, and an emphatic reminder of the power of God that will take you on a ride so real you will find it difficult to separate fact from fiction.”
Purchase your copy of THE VISION by Debi Pearl on November 3rd or 4th from Barnes & Noble. Email your dated receipt to Mel Cohen in order to receive your coupon codes for 25% off your purchases. Offer expires 11/09/09.

SOWING & REAPING THE REWARDS OF CHILD TRAINING
In June of 1995, Michael Pearl published a photo of his family taken in 1991 along with an article entitled “Of Utmost Concern.” By this point, he had seen the results of his child training in the adult lives of some of his children. In the article Michael reflected on the choices he made to forsake other activities for the calling of husband and father.
“Even before I was married, my occupation, financial security, ministry, personal fulfillment, all took third place to concerns for my future children. “What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” Likewise, what does it profit a father if he gains the whole world and loses the souls of his children?”
A decade later, with their children grown, Michael and Debi ran across that article and reflected on the many milestones they had passed and how God had blessed those choices. They published another article entitled“Another Generation.”
“Life is a gift to be enjoyed with thanksgiving. All these children and grandchildren are the fruit of our love and God’s love! Deb and I have reached the reaping stage of life, and the fruit is sweet beyond belief.”
Five years later, in May of 2009, Michael further reflected in an article entitled “A Special Day.”“When I reached the end of my row where I turn to make another pass, I looked across the yard and was blessed by the most beautiful sight. Not too far away, my wife was working in the herb garden, with several kids, none older than four years, working and playing around her. They were pulling weeds and placing stones. One was digging in the sand pile. The warm wind stirred their hair and clothes. They were having more fun than most people have in a month. . . .
In the meantime, we fathers need to be like Abraham. God chose him to be the father of a great nation for one virtue that he exercised. God said of him, “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him” (Genesis 18:19).”

She gives advice to big brothers on that front.
If you've got children that are starting to think about marriage, there are two articles on what to look for in a spouse, both from the male and the female perspective. Michael Pearl offers a historical perspective on the institution of marriage and the role of the state.
With that in mind, you're introduced to adventure and passion with a sneak peak at THE VISION by Debi Pearl. The entire first chapter of this best-selling novel is in this issue of No Greater Joy Magazine.
For those of you that enjoy humorous stories, you won't want to miss reading about the Cane Creek flood and how one of the grandchildren is introduced to the fine art of fishing. The article "The Only Trophies" offers advice on teaching children a good work ethic:
More is caught than taught. All by themselves, spoken words are empty. Actions are living words, the manifestation of our true beliefs. Words alone make us hypocrites; actions make us irrefutable examples. It takes character to work hard, and then that hard work pays dividends by developing more and stronger character. ~ Michael Pearl from the article "The Only Trophies"Mike and Debi's daughter, Shoshanna Easling includes an article on the benefits of Red Clover. Her sister, Shalom Brand, writes about helping adolescent boys navigate puberty in her article "Adrenaline Rush."
This magazine is offered free of charge. You can read it at No Greater Joy's web site or sign up to have it delivered to your home. Take the time to check it out today.
WHY CONSERVATIVE HOMES ARE LOSING THEIR CHILDREN

A “good” life without any passion is not worth repeating. Love is always passionate. So is joy and peace. Longsuffering is passionate in its quiet reserve, taking into consideration the needs and feelings of others. Gentleness and goodness are virtues that point to God like a big red arrow. Faith is as lovely as a cherub’s wings. Meekness never allows others to feel inferior, and temperance is the ultimate demonstration of the power of God in one’s life. The fruit of the Spirit is attractive indeed. Teenagers are attracted to attractive people. If their parents are unattractive, they will fix their admiring gaze on someone who is attractive. A light-hearted spirit of joy and praise is attractive to everyone. Religious convictions worn only on the shirtsleeves are about as attractive as a man sneezing in your face.In 2005 and 2006 Michael Pearl addressed the issue of conservative homeschool children that were leaving their families behind in a series of No Greater Joy magazine articles entitled Jumping Ship. These have now been compiled along with two additional chapters into one volume. Find out why so many good conservative families are breaking ties with their children and what you can do to keep it from happening to your family. Order Jumping Ship by Michael Pearl today.
The problem is that teenagers are not wise in discerning the difference between true joy and cheap laughter. But, they can easily discern when their parents don’t have any joy at all. And then, they come across a person of the world who is light-hearted and full of fun. What do you expect them to do? They don’t see the cynicism and rebellion behind the feigned joy. They just know that, for the first time in their lives, they have found a context for their passion. When they are with those kinds of people, they feel alive. They suddenly have hope that life is not always going to be dull and boring.
They find unconditional acceptance with the people of darkness, and since they have never really experienced God’s love, they think this is the love they have always missed. They will walk away from their miserable parents and right into the Devil’s den without any doubt that they have finally found true meaning in life. They are indeed fools, but their parents were foolishly naïve enough to believe that their teenagers would be content to accept the middle-of-the-road, principled but passionateless religion that never brought a shred of joy.
Parents’ ability to communicate their worldview to their children is mostly bound up in their personal relationship to each other. If Mother and Father have a romance that is visible, a joy that is uncontained, and a passion that is enviable, their children will want to travel the same road in hopes of reaping the same fruit in their own lives.Excerpt from JUMPING SHIP by Michael Pearl
