SOWING & REAPING THE REWARDS OF CHILD TRAINING

In June of 1995, Michael Pearl published a photo of his family taken in 1991 along with an article entitled “Of Utmost Concern.” By this point, he had seen the results of his child training in the adult lives of some of his children. In the article Michael reflected on the choices he made to forsake other activities for the calling of husband and father.

“Even before I was married, my occupation, financial security, ministry, personal fulfillment, all took third place to concerns for my future children. “What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” Likewise, what does it profit a father if he gains the whole world and loses the souls of his children?”

A decade later, with their children grown, Michael and Debi ran across that article and reflected on the many milestones they had passed and how God had blessed those choices. They published another article entitled“Another Generation.”

“Life is a gift to be enjoyed with thanksgiving. All these children and grandchildren are the fruit of our love and God’s love! Deb and I have reached the reaping stage of life, and the fruit is sweet beyond belief.”

Five years later, in May of 2009, Michael further reflected in an article entitled “A Special Day.”

“When I reached the end of my row where I turn to make another pass, I looked across the yard and was blessed by the most beautiful sight. Not too far away, my wife was working in the herb garden, with several kids, none older than four years, working and playing around her. They were pulling weeds and placing stones. One was digging in the sand pile. The warm wind stirred their hair and clothes. They were having more fun than most people have in a month. . . .

In the meantime, we fathers need to be like Abraham. God chose him to be the father of a great nation for one virtue that he exercised. God said of him, “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him” (Genesis 18:19).”
